Fans of Vincent van Gogh and hiking enthusiasts can enjoy themselves. For the first time an interactive website brings the 21 residences of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) clearly identified together. Using historical materials and hiking routes, you can now literally follow in the footsteps of the world-famous artist. The website gives a complete picture of the eventful life of Vincent and remains in continuous development since the visitor can add information. The website has been developed by www.vangoghroute.nl Gifted Art Foundation and supported by the Van Gogh Museum.
During his 37 years old life Vincent Van Gogh lived in no less than 21 different locations throughout Europe. That he was in Paris, Arles, Saint-Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise and made his expressive, colorful canvases there, is known to most people. But that he, as a young rookie, worked at the art dealer Goupil & Cie in The Hague, London and Paris and that he was a teacher at Ramsgate, southern England, is less known.
In many of the former residences of Vincent initiatives were developed to bring the life of Vincent to the attention, by means of a walk, billboards or a Van Gogh center. A comprehensive umbrella website was not there. President of the Foundation Gifted Art Jaap van Duijn: “In the years 2010-2013, I travelled to all the places where Vincent had lived and I observed that there were a lot of outdated and fragmented information booklets on various websites. A comprehensive new website with reliable information was not there yet. That was the immediate reason for developing this site.” The foundation hopes to bring Vincent’s life even closer to art lovers, tourists and professionals with this website.
